1. Any Pre-joining Preparation?
This is the most important question of the day....u don’t need to be great at programmer when u joining as a Fresher. Guys don’t be in thoughts that u r going to be future hi fundu Programmer. the only time during which u do some serious programming is during training and u need not be skeptical if ur non comp sci as well.infy teaches every thing from basics. Now infy does not throw out anyone. It will keep on giving you chances to pass the test until you yourself run out of company in frustration, so don’t worry.
Infosys trainings is not very tough but u need to give some extra efforts. It is three-four months long. If you don't perform well in any of the exams, you'll be given a second chance, so, attend classes carefully. Forget that you are no more a student for three months. You'll get your whole life to enjoy with your first salary, second salary and so on. But no enjoyment for first Four months.
It doesn't matter where your background is CS or non-CS.Some people are from Construction, Mechanical, Civil, Printing, Chemical and different streams of Engineering. they got same exposure, same salary, same treatment, same knowledge. don't think a CS student would be in advantageous position. All are same
Generally our training will be broken up into 2 parts. the first part will be a generic program, which will give us basic take on comps in general during that they teach us abt networking, C , SQL and a few other very basic concepts.u have to give tests for individual modules which are online tests multi-choice no negative marking. all is from the course material popularly know as Champak u should be thorough with the course material thats all. At the ends of the genric program u have to write a comprehensive exam, which is in three parts. One 50% of marks which is similar to the online tests u would have taken but with -ve mkng, 20% for programming in C and querying in SQL, 30% written. After that u will be allotted to a specific stream.
if u r from a non-IT background...u have a 3.5 months of training else 1.5 months.first subject...CHSSC...(computer hardware n systems sw concepts) then C...then RDBMS...then u have your stream specific training...with OLEs (on-line exams)...
n u have to study for it from the champak (infy slang for their training material)....all OLE questions come straight from the champak n u have to mug that....u just don't need to go for any training before hand...becoz even if u know everything...it doesn't matter ...coz the champak is the bible...n thaz what u'll hafta knowall the best...n relax...the solution to all your fears lies in the holy champak.The project allocation is totally depends upon INFY.if u have any choice or interest they can’t help u.Its totally depends on their business requirement. Enterprise Systems has highest market value...there are also many mainframes project with infy.so if u do c,java,vb etc before joining it wud not help in training as
1. What they will teach u is different
2. U doesn’t know which specific stream u get there. e.g. if u get open system then java,vb which u did before training wud not help same in the case with internet stream i.e. if u do c beforehand then it wud not help in internet stream. And nothing wud help if u get mainframes as it has COBOL programming.
The facilities at mysore are down to earth. they will provide u cycle to move around. Hostels wud be on twin sharing basis. So Chillax... and enjoy your rest of the days in full throttle...if still u r thinking of some pre joining preparation then….nobody can suggests u.do whatever u want but don’t think that it wud help in your training due to above mentioned facts.
Time of Training
I heard that training time is unusual i.e. we have to wake up early in the morning for YOGA then usual mundane things then training starts at 9 or 10 am. Upto 1 pm then break for lunch then 2-5 then 1 hour break then finally 6-8.
There are lots of best books in C, RDBMS, Java. but none of them will help you in OLE and also don’t have time to read extra material other than champak. Those course materials are sufficient. But you'll have to read them thoroughly.
But no book is there to match with their "syllabus". These are for self-learning, not to pass the OLE. Don’t get afraid, if you study the study-materials well, you' score a good mark.
Ask someone working in a good company about infy training, he will tell u Infy training is the best in India. My friend told infy training is the best and u will have a very bright future after 2 years. he also told me, just concentrate on your job in Infosys for 2 years and then change to some other company and then apply for some good Executive management program from good institute. Just go ahead and do good in infy.
Facilities
loads.. v ll gettin a twin sharing hostel room which in no way less than a 5 star hotel. Swimming, Bowling, Tennis, Library, everything, u name it and its available provided u get the Mysore center.
what we will be getting during training and any stipened or something during training
The HR who conducted the PPT presentation said that the CTC wld b 2.7lpa and after deductions v ll b gettin 19,475/-rs. Out of this some amount wld b deducted for the hostel changes during traing.
and whats the duration for a CS engnr.
Now the training is of 16 weeks as told by him but ppl say for CS students it wld b of 1.5 months only. Its basically Short Cycle and Long Cycle which is explained in posts in this community. Hope it helps...
Have funn!!

Q. whats the food like?
A. here in Mysore they have 3 food courts...in fc 1 and 2 both south indian and north indian food is served on immediate payment basis. fc 3 only for north indian and chat.Food will not taste bad (u can manage) but its hard to find time to have ur food if u r put up in the fast track .
Q. hey are we supposed to dress in formals on all days or is friday an exception?
A. from monday to thursday
formal wear:::
girls::churidhar,salwar,western formals(pants and shirts),sari
gents::
monday and tuesday:::full sleeves shirts with tie
wednesday and thursday:::half sleeves are also allowed and no need for a tie
fridays:::casual wear
jeans t shirts(common)
skirts(ladies)
Q. I have not got the hard copy but recieved the email that my doj for training is at mysore ...plus they told that i will be recieving the accomodation details in mysore ... that also not recieved!!!!!!whom to contact?
A. Accomdation details will be sent to you as a mail some 5 days before date of joining...
regarding your call letter:::if u havent received ur hard copy even after 1 and half weeks of u receiving ur call letter through mail try contacting the HR in the email itself.
Q. I just wanna knw if we are allowed to carry Cd's inside?? I wanna carry 5-6 Cd's which contain some of my important documents..thats my GRE stuff.. Do we need to declare that CD's?. Is there any prob if i carry these cd's??
A. Cds,floppies,,USB,,ipod,,laptops are all not allowed inside the campus..try carrying some books...
try having some stuffs in ur yahoo or gmail so that u can study during ur off hours..but if u r put up in fatstrack u wont find time for all these things.
Q. I wul like to know whether checked shirts are allowed on Wednesday and Thrusday. Also is the food hygeinic? i am not allowed to eat from outside since I am recuperating from jaundice. Also is it difficult to get into the fast track batch?
A. Yes checked shirts are also allowed ..but let it be a formal wear...if ur training is in mysore u have no other go but for staying in the hostel..food is hygienic in mysore but u wont find the taste good..
try having curd rice ,bread,bun etc..the caterers wont use caustic soda ,so no need to worry you have a doctor 24/7 in mysore...if ur condition is bad beacuse of the ailment, try calling the HR to postpone ur date of joining..there will be no probs...many have done it in my batch....if u have CS or IT background, getting into the fast track is not that difficult u can always manage...
Q. Let me know whether camera mobile phones are allowed or not?
A. All sorts of mobile phones are allowed everywhere within the campus..
Q. I wud like to know on wht criteria do they decide whom to put in the fast track batch and whom not to..??
A. All CS and IT students are allowed to write an exam on the first day of joining...(negative marking)10 questions...covering the subjects that we have learnt all these years in the college
the number of students to take up for that batch depends on them..but most of the students will be put into fast track.
Q. How is the training like?Is it very hectic?
A. For fast track it is very hectic office hours 9:00 to 5:45..after that you will be given with assignments from the very first day..it will take till 8 or more...every week u will have a test and some weekends you have to go on with your projects and also study for the final comprehension...
Q. Do i need to come earlier to choose room of my choice (as it may b first come first basis) or they have already decide who is going 2 stay in which room.....n who will b the room partner????
Secondly i want 2 know what books i should carry with me...can u name all those books which u ppl r using in training........plzz inform this.
r u still in training or posted somewhere????n do they ask posting prefrences.....in the beginning or at the end of the training??
A. Accomodation will be provided only from a day prior to the date of joining..after checking ur luggage they will direct u to the reception room..they will be noting down ur registeration number(u will have it in ur mail)and randomnly pick up a key and give it to u..u cant choose ur room partner..
suppose u find the keys kept in pairs urself and ur friend might get the same room..u can always enjoy there...try caching new friends...most of the time u wont be n ur room
PF(programming fundamentals) oracle is common to all..dont carry any book..u have a library there and can always use it..the course material that they provide is more than enough...u wont find time reading other books..its not knowledge that matters but intellgence and shrewdness.
you will be getting a mail regarding ur posting..u need to rank the DCs in the order of preference..but the entire thing depends on the business needs..n our batch most of them were from chennai...so most of them got mysore bangalore or trivandrum though chennai was there first preference..if u have any reason to go back to ur home town and work u need to specify the reason to the HR in advance..dont wait till the posting details are out..and also keep it as a secret!
Q. Plz tell me whether our parents r allowed into d hostel when they accompany us for d first time?
A. When you are joining your parents are allowed only till food court 1...when u become an employee(after getting ur ID and room no)only saturdays and sundays.Your parents are allowed to roam in the campus but they are not allowed inside the hostel rooms..(they are even allowed inside the GEC (gloabl education centre) till the first floor...

2)wht r the subjects i shud b prep for the pre test tht will b conducted on the day of joinin(i mean will thy conduct only comp sub's like c,c++,java.....or our academic subjects of b.tech).
A. 1::dont worry u will always have references to go through...get some books from the library..but the exact logic can be got only when u sit and think..u have made urself into INFY why worry..u will have that talent u can always get some help from the lab assistants available..

A. If you have your marksheets till the 7th sem then its ok..dont worry.get a course completion/provisional certificate from the college..there is no differentiation between off /on campus if you are a fresher..u will have a verification process on the first/2nd day.give one xerox copy of the following after showing the originals..
1.10(sslc..similar)
2.12(hsc..similar)
3.all marksheets that u currently have
4.course completion/prov
5.passport(if u have//the receipt)
6.your call letter(they themselves would have provided another copy along with the hard copy that u got)
It is no probs even if u dont have ur 8th sem marksheet or even the passport or even ur licence during ur training..u will have some 3 months time (im not sure)..my friends still havent got their 8th sem marksheets or even the passport,they r now into production also(of june 26th batch)
Q. How long is the training period?...if it is more than a few months?
A. fast track::1 and half months(for cs/it students who have cleared the exam that they have on their first day of joining)
long cycle::4 months
Q. I wanted to ask you do they have any crietria or any thing when posting later at any of their branch.
A. after getting ur posting details while in training,if the location is not preferable,u can go for swap
criteria::
1..same IBU(business unit...u will have it in ur posting)
2..same release date from training
3.. same stream of training
4..same CGPA range(
I guess:::range 1-->4 to 4.3
range 2-->4.3 to 4.5
range 3-->above 4.5
range 4-->5
You must refer with ur HR at that time..
after joining in respective locations ,stil u can try for swapping if both the persons are not in the project..otherwise go for transfer.
Q. I belong to csit&if i dont clear the initial test well or if i get less marks in it,will it b any problem??????still thy wud place me in the fast track or the slow track???? Also they have asked us to go thru 4-5 books on OS, Databases, C etc. Is it for the exam to decide the fast track or slow track? Please reply.
A. if a person does not meet their criteria during the initial test for fast track,that person will be put into long cycle.there is no probs..they dont want to keep people in long cycle,if they are comforatble with that subject.if u have prepared for any technical interview then no need to go thru these books..
but u can alwys manage if u have cleared all the subjects in the semester and are comfortable with it.
yes,the exam decides whether u r into fast track or long cycle.

Regarding the Mysore Campus
We have been allotted rooms at random in the hostel so don’t expect your best friend to be your roommate.
Rooms: Tea bags, coffee and creamers are present all the time for you. Housekeeper makes the beds and cleans the room everyday. Even our towels are replaced regularly. We need not close the lights when leaving the room because they shut off automatically. There is an intercom in each room and hot and cold water is available for 24 hrs a day. Each room has an alarm, wall clock, study tables and electric boiler, A/C and TV with cable connection. We are given our personal “Infosys” mugs for coffee and tea at office.
General: Airtel and Hutch have their shops on campus. So have DTDC, First Flight and Speed Post. There are 3 ICICI ATMs. Power never goes off because Infosys has they have their own mini power plant. There is a general store, book store, saloon, clinic, laundry service (affordable). The stuff here in general is very modestly priced and good in quality. The general store also has a mini bakery for snacks. There is a library and cybercafé too.
Training and Induction: The induction programme is very well organized and managed. People here are very friendly in attitude right from the housekeeper to the HR managers. We almost have a feeling of being pampered. Attendance is automatic. Be sure to get vaccinated because you cannot take any leave here – falling sick can have very unpleasant consequences.
Indian outsourcing companies top the list of companies who utilizes the H-1B visa program to bring foreign workers to the U.S.
Data released by the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services show that offshore outsourcing firms, from India, dominate the list of companies awarded H-1B visas in 2007. Indian companies accounted for nearly 80% of the visa petitions approved in 2007.
Infosys Technologies and Wipro, topped the list of visa beneficiaries in 2007, with 4,559 and 2,567 approved visa petitions respectively. Infosys has about 9,000 workers in the U.S., including 7,500 on H-1B visas. Infosys has 88,000 workers worldwide.
Microsoft received 959 visa petition approvals and Intel got 369 approvals in 2007. Microsoft and Intel are the only two U.S. tech companies among the top 10. 6 out of top 10 visa recipients in 2007 are based in India.
U.S. workers oppose any increase in the H1B cap, Bill Gates certainly want to get rid of the H1B cap and Tech companies wants more visas so the U.S. can attract top talent.
Bill Gates is scheduled to testify in US Capitol Hill on Mar. 12 about how to keep the country competitive and attract top talent in US soil. He is expected to repeat the points he made a year ago in Congress to increase the H1B cap.

He was speaking on ‘IT Vision 2020’ at the valedictory function of the Kerala IT.Com 2008 at the Technopark campus. Mr. Gopalakrishnan said India accounted for a fraction of the $1.3 trillion global IT industry. “We must gain more prominence globally and contribute more, which is definitely possible,” he said. Lauding Kerala for its initiatives in the sector, he said the State had become one of the most sought- after IT destinations in India.
“The Indian IT industry works on a few conducive factors like cost advantage, demographic advantage, IT-viable ecosystem, and quick adoption to latest technology. We can use these advantages for some more years but then the dynamics of the industry will change. Therefore it is imperative that India uses this period to plan and get ready for the real action,” he said. Highlighting the main areas that the country needed to become a major IT force, he called for policy initiatives for the development of infrastructure including integrated townships. Delivering the valedictory address, Minister for Law M. Vijayakumar said Thiruvananthapuram was poised to become the IT corridor of Kerala.
Mr. Vijayakumar revealed that the government was planning the third phase of expansion of Technopark on 100 acres of acquired land. The government is also acquiring 500 acres near Technopark for the Technocity project, he added.

Narayana Murthy is the Non-Executive Chairman and Chief Mentor of Infosys Technologies Limited. He set new standards in corporate governance and morality when he stepped down as the Executive Chairman of Infosys at the age of 60.
Born on August 20, 1946, N.R. Narayana Murthy is a B.E. Electrical from University of Mysore (1967) and M.Tech from IIT Kanpur (1969). In 1999, Infosys became the first Indian company to be listed on NASDAQ. Today (in 2006), Infosys has a turnover of more than $ 2billion and has employee strength of over 50,000. In 2002, Infosys was ranked No. 1 in the "Best Employers in India 2002" survey conducted by Hewitt and in the Business World's survey of "India's Most Respected Company." Conducted in the same year.
Along with the growth of Infosys, Narayana Moorthy too has grown in stature. He has received many honors and awards. Infosys not the first venture..
Narayan Murthy first founded "Softronics" in 1976.It was an IT consulting company catering to Indian market clients. He wound it and joined Patni Computers...
Murthy wasnt employee #1..
Murthy is Infosys' employee #4, not employee #1. He decided to joined on Infosys on Dec. 29,1980, and went back to Patni to complete 2 pending projects. He re-joined Infosys on March 18,1982...
Nandan ties company knot..
Nandan Nilekani joined hands a few days before his marriage in january 1981. Murthy and Raghavan invited him to join Infosys in Dec. 1980...
Infosys has 7,not 6 founders..
The 7th lesser known founder is Ashok Arora. He quit in 1989...
Murthy considered best software engineer..
Murthy is considered to be the best-ever software engineer by his former founding colleagues. They say as long as computers continue to be based on Von Neumann architecture, Murthy will be on top of systems and software...
Company without a computer..
Infosys didnt have a computer in the first 2 years of its existence. It started operations as a body shopper...
Hegde first in employees' rank..
A former Patni Employee, Sharad Hegde was the first to join the company apart from the founders...
JV route to market..
Infosys' made early market inroads in the US through a joint venture with KSA, called KSA-Infosys which fell apart later...
The End was near..
Infosys was on the verge of being wound up in 1989. The JV with KSA had collapsed,Arora decided to leave that year. Murthy asked his co-founders if they wanted to quit.They declined and moved on...
Manmohan Facilitated the IPO..
Infosys wanted to issue its shares at a premium. Till early 90s, issue-pricing was decided by Controller of Capital Issues. It fixed Infosys' share premium of Re.1 at issue price of Rs 11. Infosys demurred. Then finance minister Manmohan Singh abolished CCI and Infosys went ahead with the issue in February 1993 at a premium of Rs 85 and issue price of Rs 95.
Close to Devolution..
Infosys IPO was on the verge of devolution. The issue was subscribed 1.06 times. But it almost didnt go through. Eventually Enam Financial Consultants,the lead manager, had to push it through...
Nilekani's Quiz Club..
Nilekani's Quiz Club members made it rich with infosys. Nilekani was a quiz master in college and was a part of an informal group that would meet and quiz in Banglore. One member remembers that Nilekani came to a quiz session with a battered briefcase, pulled out some IPO forms, and tried to coax them into buying the offering...
