Tuesday was the real first of training. The notice board at GEC displayed the name of the class and the number of PC assigned to us according to our employee number. The lecture was mainly about how to approach a problem and what methods to apply. Nothing worth querying about for you people. Then we used a small software called Raptor which makes flowcharts and executes them. We had to make some silly flowcharts like adding first 10 even and odd numbers, find whether a number is prime or not, etc etc. We did not have to submit the assignment and it was not to be evaluated.
We were also given our login IDs and passwords. I started entering all kinds of passwords before it was made known to us and ended up locking my account.(Your account gets locked if you enter a wrong password for 3 times). Thats no big deal, actually. I just had to call extension 5555 and tell my employee number and it was unlocked within 30 seconds.

Today also we had to make some slightly complex flowcharts with Raptor and had to give feedbacks about the faculty yesterday. Its an online system and you will get a mail about it on your infy mail account. The infy mail account is the way company communicates officially to you. You get all types of mail from infosys on it. Like today, there was a mail telling Cochin Bakery has opened today in GEC-2. You can also register for any contests through it like there was a mail about registrations for bowling competition.
And ya, i forgot to tell you one thing that Indian Women's Cricket team is practicing on the cricket ground here. They are here since 10 days now. And Anil Kumble also comes sometimes to practice at the nets here. (As told by HR in the first week.)

Passport is not necessary. If you dont have it then bring the receipt of having applied for passport.. Take one zerox of it also.. And that is necessary to show and submit the zerox.
Even i dont have passport and have that receipt only...

no its not needed at all...
but you can learn driving by yourself if you want. otherwise not necessary for infosys.

Hallo Chintan, I would like to know How do you get Internet Facility? Is it true all hostel rooms now have a PC? Are Laptops allowed?

Hehe... who told you this joke about hostel rooms having PCs??
You will get one in your class only. Laptops are allowed.
You can surf net at Reliance cafe there. On Infy PCs you wont be able to access any of the sites you want to. Or you can get a USB modem on your laptop as i did.

You can go for certifications like Sun Certified Java Programmer or similar microsoft certifications for .NET. They have great value in the industry.

hey chintan.. thnx4 al the info man... one thing - i now its been asked a hundred times bt i heard 4m my frndz who've joined on 8th june tht laptops arent allowed at al. they're blocked at the gates by the guards themselves!! ny of these new rules tht u'r aware of??

then can i insert the CD and access them??

I think you may not be aware of the rule that no IT company no matter how big or small, whether has 100 employees or 1 lakh employees will not allow anyone to bring pen drives, CDs, hard disks to the office area.
Anyways, all books that you will ever need are available from the library.

OHhhh... You cant have your own internet connection that i what i meant...
You can access your official mail anytime from any PC in infosys.

All kinds of food is available including North Indian. Prices are very low - about 20-40 Rs per dish depending on what you ordered.

As fast track batches are now cancelled, the CC test taken there is just a formality. If you fail, you will be amongst the 99.5% students that fail. :)
Less than 10 people pass the screen test from a batch of 1000 on a DOJ which would consist of about 300-400 CC test eligible candidates.
The reward for passing is nothing but if you score more than 80%, you will get 5000 Rs. which i have never seen happening in my 5 months of training.

What are the streams(programming languages) they are giving away for the NON-IT stream students?
Is it necessary to Know JAVA and other prog languages??

There is no differentiation in allocating streams between IT nad non-IT students.
You should study C language and Java before joining.

You have to score 4 out of 5 CGPA to clear the training.
