Hi..

Today's RDBMS test went fine for me..
Got 75% . RDBMS is not that difficult. And today we got our first salary credited to our accounts. For 21 july people, its 19,875 Rs. I am not yet a member of the infy health club otherwise it would be 300 Rs less. Today i also got my passport and PAN card couriered from home. So you can be easy on that. Its not really needed unless they want to send you overseas.

And now an important thing for mechanical/civil people...

There is a unit called PLES (Product Life Cycle and Engineering Solutions) within Infosys. The work that these people do is related to Automobile and Aerospace mainly. They design wing flippers for Airbus, cockpit for Boeing, seating system of Audi, Ford etc.. First, the case was that as the stream allocation is random, CS/IT people used to get PLES as stream which did not work out that well for them. So now, Infy people have decided to offer PLES first to mech/civil/chem/electrical people and they would select those who express their interest. As you can see, this would be the dream job of any mechanical engineer.. ("To design").. Out of the 180 people from these branches who are eligible for PLES from july batch, they want 40-50 people.

So, here, prior exposure to CAD/CAM tools like ProE and AutoCAD would greatly help. They may choose you due to that. We had selected CAD and CAM in our college as optional subjects so there are high chances of us getting selected. So if you are really free and just waiting for your DOJ, you may consider learning CAD/CAM if you want to choose PLES. And ya, if the number of people expressing their interest in PLES is more than the 40-50 they want, then they will consider prior exposure to CAD/CAM and would take a brief interview. and plz dont ask me what they ask in the interview. Its just short, nothing to worry about type of interview..

There are also some more benefits of PLES:

The stream training is just like any other stream like Java or DotNet but here you will have subjects that you can relate better to.. Like Fluid Mechanics,
Thermo Dynamics etc.. So you can be at ease even in stream training.

And you will be placed in PLES after being trained in PLES which is not assured in any of the other streams. There you may be trained in Java and be put into a Mainframes project.

You get into a project quickly. No bench time.

High onsite oppurtunities as 30% of the team would be overseas at the client location.

Relatively better postings as PLES is only at Mysore, Bangalore and Pune.. So this would help people who would not like to go to far off places like Chennai, Trivandrum, Bhubaneshwar etc.

Thats all..

Hi... everyone.. Its been hard these days to find time to post..

1. There was a fire drill last friday at GEC-1. The sirens started screaming and everyone was asked to vacate the building. The whole thing seemed real but we were already leaving for our rooms. They even took a guy into an ambulance as if he was hurt. Then they said that it was all fake and gave a lecture on fire safety.

2. RDBMS test was supposed to be today but there was some server problem and we received a mail yesterday at 8:30 PM telling that the test will be tomm at the same time.

3. About the hostel rooms... It now seems clear that they are accommodating boys in single bed rooms only and are using the shared rooms to accommodate girls. I am saying this because the hostels that belonged to boys b4 are now occupied by girls of 25th August batch. So its very likely that all boys joining from now onwards will get single bed rooms. (there are no single bed room hostels for girls). But ya, luxury comes at a price. The rent of single bed rooms is 2750 Rs per month while that of shared is 2000 Rs per month. But believe me, single bed rooms are worth paying 3000 Rs per month.

4. Today, when we arrived in our rooms, there was a new table lamp waiting for us which is completely unnecessary. Dont know how much they earn that they can easily afford such things. Adding a wallclock last week was ok but this was just not needed. There was already a bedside lamp if you want to read books on bed and now this. The ACs in single bed rooms are still not working as there is central AC here and shared rooms have individual split ACs but the whether is good enough to not even need a fan.

5. Movies at the multiplex for this weekend are "Wanted" and "Rock On!!"..
Thats it for now... bye...

Hey guys,
Please do prepare C language as good as you can before you join. It will be too much helpful to get good scores in the early stages of training. 5 credit points out of 34 total for generic training are completely dependent on C lang. I could not pass prog funda (PF) as i had not learnt C in mechanical. And ya, the PF retest is the toughest of all.

I could not clear the retest also today.. Only about 3-4 people from about 80 people sitting in my class for retest could pass. And there were 2 classes allotted for retest of PF so i think about 150 would have failed in the first try out of about 450 people in long cycle from july 21 batch.

The things that you need to prepare well for C are pointers, arrays, strings, various functions related to strings, user defined functions, while, for, if, do while etc loops. These things will help you a lot.. C graphics is not in the course.

And for people joining on 25th august, please start reading the C material (if you are not good at C) which they provide on the 2nd day or so.. Just read casually and try to understand before the training begins. This is necessary because non-CS IT people need to work more to learn C.

Hi... Today we people got an email from the HR dept telling that the hostel fees have increased. Its 2000 Rs as before for shared rooms but for single bed rooms it has been increased to 2750 Rs.!!! My module test went fine today. Scored 70% but still not happy.

(More news inside.. )

Tomorrow NRN is coming to Mysore Campus. There is a cultural festival tomorrow and an award function to award the winners of various sports and cultural inter-DC competitions. There is a DJ night to end it all. But i will be busy preparing for my re-test for PF. I have my retest on thursday. But will go for NRN's speech.

There is much doubt about the higher education policy at Infosys so let me make it clear. First of all, you need to apply to any institute ( the names of which are mentioned at the end of the post) and get the admission offer letter. Then you need to apply for registration with HES (Higher Education Section) and the HES will issue a registration number after verification of eligibility criteria.

The eligibility criteria for registration is:
-More than 1 year of experience in Infosys Technologies Ltd.
-CRR Band 1 or 2(Dont ask me what that is) (or) Trainee Band B1(Top 45% among trainees).
-Admission offer letter from institute.

The employee should pay fees only after obtaining the Reg. No. from HES.

Infosys does not sponsor full course but it reimburses fees paid upto Rs. 1 lakh or 50% of the fees paid, whichever is lower.

Fees paid after registration with HES only will be considered as "Fees Paid", for reimbursement calculation.

Reimbursement should be claimed within 3 months of completing the program. That means at first you need to pay fees by yourself.

The bond after completing the course is only for 1 year. You can leave Infosys after 1 year. If you leave within that 1 year, the amount reimbursed will be recovered.

List of supported programs:

Hi everyone...

This weekend they are showing Singh is Kinng and Hancock at the multiplex. Have just seen Singh is Kinng and i liked it. Will see Hancock in the night show. PF module test is on monday so will have to prepare for it as well. Now the stretch can be felt.

The instructors here are really good. Very knowledgeable and very helpful. The lab assistants are also all really good people. You also have to submit a mandatory feedback about all instructors and lab assistants. You will get an email at the end of each module about them. You can tell their strengths and weaknesses and i am sure it is communicated to them. Thats it for now.. Keep checking.

Hi, today was the CHSSC module test. It was easy i would say though i got only 68%. 65% is the passing criteria. It was very easy for EC students and many of them got 90, 92, 95, 96 and one 100% is also there in our class. I actually made 3 silly mistakes. The exam was of 25 questions so i lost about 15 % there.

Many people have doubts like they wrote right answers but still got very low marks. Infact 40 % from our class have failed. They have to appear for retest after 3 calender days which means on Saturday. The test was not that difficult but we have to read the questions properly. There would be some hidden data, thats all. The PF module which started today is of 4 days and so its test will be on monday.

Hi everyone....

Today was the second day of CHSSC module. (Computer Hardware and System Software Concepts). It was all bits and bytes again. Virtual memory, Paging, fragmentation, memory allocation etc etc etc.... The assignments were easy again. There is a zip file for every module stored on their servers whose address will be given to you by them. You have to download that zip file. It would have day-wise slides of everything of the module. And there would also be a PDF file which is the Lab Guide. It would have day-wise assignments.

So you have to learn for the day till 12:30 then there would be recess and classes resume from 2:00. You can also start doing your assignments before they teach if you know them. Then you have to submit them on the server address they give you. There would be folders for each day on the server. You have to paste the word file there. Thats all.

I cudnt post yesterday as i was at the DJ night. It was cool. Everyone dances like crazy there. It would start from 8 and will be till 11 or 11:30.

About class, we completed the day's assignments really soon and submitted them. We have to submit them in a folder created by the batch owner for the day. The filename has to be your employee id. They taught us how to give attendance online and from today we have to keep 4 keys on the screen pressed for 5 seconds to register our attendance.

If you cant do it, you can tell the tutor to submit your attendance. Nothing to worry about there. They will check and tell the names and employee numbers of people who fail to register your attendance and if you are present, they will submit your attendance. The recess time for training is 12:30 to 2 PM. Our trainer for CHSSC gave us time till 2:15 PM yesterday and yesterday itself she got a mail from our batch owner about it.. LOL..
